Stable, durable & lighter than older Barricades

The adidas Barricade is back! Coming from a long history of being the most stable and durable shoe on the market, this 12th version (or 2021 edition) is designed to carry on the legacy of the most successful adidas tennis franchise. A key feature carried on from previous Barricades is the Torsion System, which creates a very stable ride and will hold up to the most aggressive changes of direction. This update features an asymmetric hidden lacing system, which provides secure lockdown and keeps the laces protected on the medial side for hard court sliders. The comfort has been enhanced with foam pods in the heel region for step-in comfort, as well as the BOUNCE 2.0 full midsole for those players putting in the long hours on court. This shoe features Primegreen, a series of high-performance recycled materials, where 50% of the upper material is recycled content.

  • Upper: One-piece textile upper material, with an asymmetric lacing system, neoprene tongue, and hidden laces on the medial side. Medial side features tough RPU to protect from foot drag, and toe-cap equipped with Adituff for added durability. Primegreen - 50% of the upper is recycled content.
  • Midsole: Full length BOUNCE 2.0 midsole, with Torsion System TPU midfoot shank to maximize lateral stability.
  • Outsole: New ADIWEAR rubber compound for high wear durability. Herringbone Reload tread design for enhanced abrasion resistance in high wear areas, and lateral edge caters to hard court sliding.

Need better colors Other than wanting additional colors, it's the best shoe I've worn in years. I'm on my 3rd pair now and my plantar fasciitis is gone since I've stopped wearing Nikes.

Almost perfect! I really like the new Barricades! The weight is good! I actually like the lacing system a lot. I like a very tight tennis shoe, so I find its easier on the top of the foot so you don't cut off any circulation like I've had happen on for example the Ubersonic 4. I really miss the Ubersonic 3's. The only big problem I have with the shoe is the 'attack angle' of the back heel support towards the achilles. It ruined the shoe until I decided to razor blade the section and take a chunk out of it (half an inch wide or so) to prevent myself from getting blisters. No idea why adidas went with such an aggressive angle on that heel support. If they just went straight up with it I think the shoe would be perfect. The wear on the side of the shoe is alright. If you move aggressively and slide on hard court like myself, you'll cut through the side pretty quickly. I use shoe goo to keep the side together till the out sole wears out into the foam. The out sole has good durability. Not as soft as other out soles, so its a little less grippy but I like it that way. Also, laces are a tad too long. I don't really understand the reason to go to a thinner, longer shoe lace for tennis shoes. Overall, a very good shoe, with one horrible design flaw.

Best shoes ever Great feeling on your feet. 100% comfortable and great support. I have a semi-plane feet and this version of the Barricade give me full confidence in my balance.

Love the New Version of the Barricade I have been using Adidas Barricades since their inception. I always loved the durability and support, but they were heavy and needed a decent amount of time to break-in. Yet the advantages they offered far outweighed the disadvantages. With this version Adidas found a way to shave weight off the shoe without sacrificing stability and durability. Not too crazy about the way the laces are positioned but they are a minor inconvenience. I play in these shoes 4 times per week in Houston where it is hot and humid. I have had the shoes for 5 months now and they still feel great.

Poor design and quality I've been playing on these shoes for just over a month and I'm very disappointed. The tongue bunches up and I have to pull it up every 10 min. The heel piece is too high and I get constant blisters. The shoe laces are flimsy and feel like they're going to snap. The shoes just simply cannot get snug and therefor don't feel supportive. The shoe lace holes/loops are weird and feel cheap. The shoe has frayed in several places, and very odd places - no place I've get got wear on a shoe before. I generally like adidas shoes, but this particular edition is a bust.

Worst Shoes I've Ever Owned I've never written any reviews on here but this shoe requires special attention. I've had these shoes for about 2 weeks and I absolutely hate them. I've been playing tennis competitively whether it be tournaments nationally or now in college for about 12 years and have always worn Barricades or Solecourts, but these shoes might be the last straw for me with adidas. Lets get into what's wrong with these Barricades: 1. Terrible heel support, much worse than the Ultra Boost heel support for Solecourts. I get significant heel pain every time I'm on the dead run and have to make any aggressive movements where I land on my left foot. Boost > Bounce. 2. Terrible blisters on the heel that lasted for about 10 days. Blisters aren't so bad anymore but having them there was a major inconvenience. I've heard of guys that had these blisters for over a month. 3. The shoelace system is horrible. Shoelaces are way too long, they ripped after 45 min. I also don't understand why the laces go to the side of the foot, it feels really weird. 4. The side wears extremely easily. To be fair, I slide quite a bit on hardcourts but I shouldn't have a hole in the side of my shoe after hitting 3 times. After shipping I spent about $250 CAD on these. Fair to say I wasted $250.

Great Upgrade Love these shoes for my daily training sessions. Lace system I love to protect from sliding or toe drag. I use the Ubersonic's for matches and Barricades for practice. True to size and a lot of grip for the court. Out of the box a little stiff but half hour break in time. My feet feel great after practice due to the outstanding support.

Some of the worst shoes I've ever tried on Long time barricade lover, around a 13 UTR. These are horrendous. Thoughtlessly designed and uncomfortable. No cushioning on top, just feels like shards of plastic digging into the top of my foot.

Great shoe but Fix the Lacing System Been a Barricade fan since its early incarnations. Loved every version of it. This one is the best one yet but this lacing system is horrible. Those little loops that are supposed to hold the laces are basically stitched together. As the shoe wears and sweats gets into it, they give way as you try to pull on them to make for a tighter fit. I have had 3 pairs of these new models and each one of them, it has happened. I hope that adidas can fix this issue on their next production run or edition. Other than that the shoe delivers on what it promises.

Barricades are back Been wearing the Barricades for decades, happy to see they are back. Love the looks of the new shoes, but was skeptical of their ability to perform on the court with the new lacing system etc. but after allowing them time to break in they just keep getting better, not the fastest shoe but great stability support and comfort. My feet & ankles feel good after a long tough match (not so much with Asics Court FF2) just a solid shoe. Extremely durable great grip on the court, been playing 2-3 times a week for the past month plus and they still look new no wear on the out sole or shoe. So happy with these shoes bought a 2nd pair.

Barricade Irritation While the shoe is overall comfortable, the way it is made there is a gap at the middle of the outer side of the shoe. The liner does not continue unbroken. Putting the shoe on bunches the liner creating a "hard" spot that is irritating. The liner should have been continuous and not permitted to bunch.

Best Adidas Shoe It is everything I expected of a Barricade. Lighter than the previous ones, same fit and great quality. Excellent shoe.

Best Shoe in the Court True to size for me and my width is normal. Great grip on the court and able to stop and accelerate no problem. Easy break in time which I thought would take longer. I like the lace system in the shoe and lower profile gives me the ability to move faster.

Barricade main points SOLE: adidas focused on durability here. The soles feel clunky and loud on the first few wears. The sole outlasts the shoes I've worn from Wilson, Nike, KSwiss, Babolat and even Prince. COMFORT: These shoes are harder on my feet than some others. The ball of my foot will burn after a few hours of hard play, but they play so well. They're so stable and made for hard play. I wouldn't wear these if I was an older player looking for cushy comfort (I'm 29) FIT: Nice space in the toe box (my only complaint with Wilson and Prince shoes is the tight toe box). Good heel lock. Overall a great fitting shoe. MINOR CONS: The laces are poor. Tore through mine in a month. Small break in period. Some players might feel these shoes are clunky due to the hard, durable, wide, stable soles. Overall 5/5. Good bang for your buck. These things will last we the entire season, no problem.

The Barricades Are Back! I have been wearing Barricades since the original version back in the early 2000s. The original versions were my favorite as they were narrow, low to the ground, and aggressive. The later versions of the Barricades went away from that model much to my displeasure. This newer version harkens back to the older Barricades. If you're looking for wonderful support, great stability, and good protection on all parts of the shoe you'll be happy with the new Barricades. I hope they stick with this model for many years to come.

T Meyer This latest version of Barricades offers better support and is more comfortable than its predecessors especially in the midsole section.Good for long hours on the court.

stable option Stable and good support on hard courts. They provide max protection!

Love the new Barricade. I am back from Nike to adidas! Love this shoe!

expect blisters on your heel I've been a fan of Barricades as I love the solid design and support for my feet. This new version which I grabbed at Tennis-Warehouse store at Indian Wells was such a disappointment. Shoes are hard to put on as well as I got blisters on the heel as well as my inner ankle bone. What did they do? Bring back the old Barricades! I'll be happy to pay the price or new one's for them!

poor design for upgraded barricade I was so excited when I heard the Barricade was being re-released. I've been wearing these shoes for tennis for more than 6 years previously and wouldn't wear anything but Barricades. These nowhere compare to the superior 2018 models. Though they are lighter, I personally feel these shoes have lost a lot overall. Not as much support, lack of arch support, not as stable and overall feel. ADIDAS bring back the 2018 models!

Tried but didn't buy Really liked lateral stability and they didn't feel heavy, but like some other reviews mentioned the tongue and laces are kind of frustrating. That tongue kept curling up while putting them on and would be uncomfortable to play in and likely giver you a blister on top of your foot. Laces were thin and flimsy but that's an easy upgrade.

Not bad careful the shoe runs very long. I even compared them to my old Barricades, same size, but completely different fit.

The GOAT shoe Best shoes I have ever worn. Fast, stable, comfy and stylish. The lateral stability is incredible. If I had one complaint is that the durability isn't great since I play 15+ hours a week.

Blistered heals I want these shoes to be both a performance shoe and a casual shoe. Great looking!!! Unfortunately my heals are both blistered and toes are rubbing raw too. I had to switch to 2 pairs of thicker socks to make them work. Once I did that the shoe performs well, but I will not wear them casually.

Love these adidas shoes My fave adidas shoe available right now. They have the stable feel of past Barricades in a modern, quicker package. I like the asymmetrical lacing because of how my old adidas soccer shoes were. That is a natural, locked-in feel for me. These are also very durable. Took me some experimenting to get the size correct. I went a half-size down to get a tighter fit because I prefer that. But, ended up undoing that and going with my normal size and my foot fit cleanly with no rubbing anywhere in the shoe. As long as adidas keeps making these, I'm wearing them.

Decent shoe, but definitely not for me I really wanted to like this shoe, and overall, I think the shoe is fine, but after wearing them for tennis the last few weeks, I can say it's definitely not the right shoe for me. First, the shoe is very stiff right out of the box. I know that other reviews say that after breaking-in the shoe, it will be fine, but so far I've played with the shoe for several weeks (playing 3 or 4 times a week) and it's still pretty uncomfortable. I prefer shoes that are light and provide good mobility (like the Ubersonic line of shoes), whereas I think the Barricade shoes are more about durability and stability. Second, these shoes have given me the worst blisters ever. I don't normally suffer from blisters. I've played all kinds of sports my whole life so I feel like my feet have toughened up to the point where I don't really worry about blisters. But these shoes proved me wrong - I've gotten blisters on my arch, near my toes, near the top of my feet because the lace eyelets are on the inside of the shoe and rub against my feet, and up around my ankles because the shoes are so stiff. I honestly had to stop wearing these shoes because they were beating up my feet so bad. Back to Ubersonics for me.

no cushion to protect toes These feel like wearing converse shoes for the tennis, there was no cushioning to protect my toes. I started bleeding from toes in the first use. While running I had to made an abrupt stop and my toe nails was pressed hard, which caused bleeding. The shoe's design kept rubbing the back of the ankle causing a blister. I do not recommend this product.

Say it ain't so Oh man, was so excited to get these shoes with full understanding they would require some break-in. Alas, after wearing them around the house and a few test runs on the court, I had to give up. The shoes dug in to the outer ridge of my feet to the point of having to stop playing matches. I tried 2 pairs of socks, loosening the laces, putting tape and thin rubber strips inside the shoe to try to dampen the impact, nothing worked. Seems like a defect. I am crushed. I was so hoping the Barricades would be the ultimate shoe for me. Sadly, unwearable, nothing but pain.

Many Pros and Cons with this one... Pros: They are stylish, roomy in the toe box, stable, durable with great traction and good arch support. Break in period was reduced from previous models. Heel is fairly cushioned and they feel low to the ground like most Barricades and also the new model is more lightweight than old Barricades. Cons: I have been using them for almost two months now and my opinion is that the worst thing they have is poor cushioning in the toe box. My metatarsal bones hurt on the plantar area each time I play. The other bad things (like they mentioned previously) is that the quality of the laces and lacing system is not the best and you can not use them with no show socks. You need at least 3/4 ankle socks or calf socks so that they don't cut your ankles and end up with big blisters. I am using these Barricades and a pair of Asics Gel Resolution 8's right now and I alternate between them and can tell you the Resolution has better cushioning overall. I am an all court doubles and singles player @ 4.0-4.5 level who plays mostly on hard courts and at 40 years and over league where my toe dragging is minimum and I don't slide intentionally. I have used every barricade model at least twice until the Novac Pro (Barricade 7) with the exception of the Barricade 5- that were too narrow for me. I have used the Asics Gel Challenger, Asics Gel Court, Asics Solution Speed and Asics Gel Resolution 8. My opinion is that the Barricades 4 and 7 are the best Barricades ever made, followed by the Barricade 6 model. Adidas should bring back the retro barricades 3, 4, 6 and 7. I'm pretty sure I would not be the only one who would love to buy them again. What say you? #SHOW ME THE RETROS!
